A fossil previously identified as the oldest octopus, Pohlsepia mazonensis, discovered in the Mazon Creek Lagerstätte in Illinois around 2000, has been reclassified. Thomas Clements, a paleontologist at the University of Leicester, determined that the fossil is actually a nautiloid, a related but distinct cephalopod. The fossil, initially believed to be 311-306 million years old, provides insights into the evolution of cephalopods.Articole despre acest subiect
