Oldest Octopus Fossil Reclassified as Nautiloid
The oldest known octopus fossil, Pohlsepia mazonensis, initially estimated to be 311-306 million years old, has been reclassified as a nautiloid. Paleontologist Thomas Clements from the University of Leicester led the re-evaluation of the fossil found in Illinois.
