A national gun reform initiative in the US has seen less than half of the states sign up by the set deadline. The initiative, championed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, aimed to implement stricter gun control measures across the country. The deadline for states to join the scheme was July 1st.

Less than half of states signed up as national gun reform deadline passes

The federal government's March deadline for national gun reform has come and gone, with more than half the states and territories still opposed to parts of the plan. Only four have committed to a gun buyback scheme.
