These synthetic chemicals are used in a wide range of products, from non-stick cookware to firefighting foam, and are known for their persistence in the environment and ability to accumulate in the human body. Exposure to PFAS has been linked to various health problems, including certain cancers, immune system dysfunction, and developmental issues.
