The Israeli military said on March 16 it had begun what it described as "limited ground operations" against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.The announcement echoes similar statements issued in 2024, when Israel and Hezbollah fought a major war in Lebanon, and in 2023, when the military launched a ground assault in Gaza in response to Hamas's October 7 attacks. "Yet the buffer zone is expanding significantly", says FRANCE 24's Noga Tarnopolsky from Jerusalem.

Israel strikes bridge over Litani River in Lebanon
The Israeli military said it carried out an air strike on a bridge in southern Lebanon on Friday, in what appeared to be the first time in the current campaign against Hezbollah that it acknowledged attacking civilian infrastructure. The military said the Zrariyeh bridge, which crosses the Litani River, was used by Hezbollah militants moving between northern and southern Lebanon, but provided no evidence to support the claim.
