Visitors to Rome's Colosseum now have a new chance to step back into history thanks to a renovation project that's unearthed several entrance columns that have been buried for hundreds of years.

Colosseum

Colosseumul este un amfiteatru eliptic în centrul orașului Roma, Italia, la est de Forumul Roman. Este cel mai mare amfiteatru antic construit vreodată și cel mai mare amfiteatru în picioare din lume. Construcția a început sub împăratul Vespasian în anul 72 și a fost finalizată în anul 80 d.Hr. sub succesorul și moștenitorul său, Titus. Modificări suplimentare au fost făcute în timpul domniei lui Domitian. Cei trei împărați care au fost patroni ai lucrării sunt cunoscuți sub numele de dinastia Flaviană, iar amfiteatrul a fost numit Amfiteatrul Flavian de către ulteriorii clasicisti și arheologi datorită asocierii cu numele lor de familie (Flavius).
