Alpha-gal syndrome (AGS) is becoming an increasing health concern in the US. The condition develops after a bite from certain types of ticks, most notably the Lone Star tick, which transmits the alpha-gal sugar molecule into the person's system. This can lead to an allergic reaction, sometimes severe or even fatal, upon consumption of red meat or other mammal-derived products.
